Recent Advances in Photograph Preservation from the Image Permanence Institute
Just prior to my move back to Northern California, I came to San Francisco with Ryan Boatright from the Image Permanence Institute where I chaired a session at the annual meeting of the Society of American Archivists.
I presented "A Guide to Fiber-Base Gelatin Silver Print Condition and Deterioration" which I had written during a fellowship at George Eastman House in Rochester, NY. Publication is expected in 2009 (fingers crossed).
Meanwhile, Ryan presented "An Online Resource for the Identification of Prints." Also known the as the digital sample book, this online visual guide to photographic processes has to be seen to be believed. Check out: www.graphicsatlas.org.
